SchemaStudio now supports Microsoft SQL Server

When we launched SchemaStudio, we started with PostgreSQL — because that's where most of our clients' data warehouses live. But from day one, one of the most frequent questions we heard was:

"Does it also work with SQL Server?"

Today, the answer is yes.

Full feature parity — not a stripped-down version

This isn't a limited preview or a "beta" connector. Microsoft SQL Server is now a fully supported database in SchemaStudio, with the exact same capabilities as PostgreSQL:

  • Create tables with custom fields, data types, and relationships.
  • Add and edit records with validation, linked fields, and lookup references.
  • Browse and search across your existing tables and views.
  • Set up monitors to detect missing links between systems.
  • Export data to Excel for further analysis.

If it works on PostgreSQL, it works on SQL Server. No exceptions.

Connect in seconds

Switching to SQL Server — or using it alongside PostgreSQL — is as simple as selecting it on the connection screen. SchemaStudio now features a visual database selector where you pick your database type with a single click. The form automatically adjusts ports, encryption settings, and connection options to match.

Already using SchemaStudio with PostgreSQL? Nothing changes for you. Your existing setup works exactly as before.

Why this matters

Many organizations run mixed database environments. Your ERP might be on SQL Server, while your data warehouse runs on PostgreSQL — or the other way around. Until now, you'd need different tools for each.

With this update, SchemaStudio becomes a single interface for managing custom data across both platforms. Whether you're linking CRM accounts, maintaining budget targets, or enriching reporting tables — you can do it in one place, regardless of which database engine powers the backend.

What's next?

We're already looking ahead. Support for Google BigQuery and Snowflake is on our roadmap, so you'll be able to manage custom data wherever it lives.
